4/10/19 - This is a very nice and all original Springfield Armory M1 Garand from June of 1944. The original metal finish rates at about 90-95% with most of the thinning on the barrel but a very nice receiver. The stock is very nice with minor nicks and dings but no major chips or cracks. Sharp crossed cannons cartouche and clear inspector cartouche on stock (SA over GAW). Barrel is 6-44 dated. The stock is in good condition with clear SA/GAW cartouche, Ordnance emblem, small Ordnance emblem on the bottom of the pistol grip, and proof P. The stock, op rod, rear sight base and elevation knob are splattered with white paint and the front hand guard has white paint overspray on it. Fruity soundfont player free version. Most if not all of this could be removed. The stock has very few scratches, dings and scrapes expected in a 70 year old piece of history. The stock has a strong SA/GAW cartouche with ordinance wheel. It also has a nice crossed cannon on the heel and strong circle P. The stock appears to be unsanded. This is one of the nicest GAW stocks I have put up for sale. Up for sale is an original WWII M1 Garand S.A. (Springfield Armory / George A. Woody) cartouched and USGI Ordnance Wheel cartouched stock on the side of the stock. This is the nicest G.A.W. Stock I have for sale and the nicest in a long time. The stock is guaranteed original WWII and has never had anything added or taken away.

The stamps were put on the rifles to show that 3 things had been done:

1. Checked for working condition
2. Fired with proof round and checked for damage
3. Accepted by the Ordnance Department
The maker's mark and Ordnance wheel went on the center side of the stock below the back end of the receiver. The circled 'P' went on the pistol grip halfway between the trigger guard and bottom.
