This rod is new (unlined and un-fished) and is a light action rod for #4 line. When I started studying and fishing bamboo rods in the 1970's my 'holy grail' was to find an 8 foot rod that fished a #4 line well; this rod would have been beyond a dream come true for me in those early years with its light, smooth action and wonderful feel in the hand. That page appears to be incomplete; it omits the G-prefix numbers that were used on composite rods - i.e. whole cane/split cane, or whole cane/greenheart. I too own a Hardy G-rod - inherited from my father, who had it from his father. The serial number is G13075 - year 1934. It is a 10' 7' two hand, two piece fly rod with 'The 'Pike' Rod' written just above the handle. The rod is made of wood, of cause, not bamboo. The top half is significantly darker than the bottom half.
