Cryptographic Sequencer Cipher
Open up your Cryptographic Sequencer and you can find three broadcasts from aslightly fuzzy and robotic voice. It will keep saying mostly random numbers. Thesenumbers are actually a cipher, numeric representations of the alphabet. Two of thebroadcasts are garbage, but the third one says: '9 23 9 12 12 18 5 20 21 18 14 2 1 2013 1 14' which translates to ' I WILL RETURN BATMAN'. See if you can figure out anyof the others.
The Scarecrow Room
On the ship near the complete bridge (it goes between the Industrial District andAmusement Mile) there is a tiny raised area on it. Stop on this little platform and take outyour Cryptographic Sequencer, you will start hacking something. This hack is very tough, but after you get it the trapdoor opens. When you go down you'll see several hundredbugs scurrying around and a dead henchman. If you zoom in on the henchman he willmove a little bit. To the right of the henchman is a clipboard with Dr. J Crane's name onit, and an order for several thousand of those bugs.

Apparently mainstream gamers are avid Batman fans, because Batman: Arkham Asylum has enjoyed oodles of stellar review scores and ebullient accolades. The game is good, but 5 stars on GameSpy and a 9.5 on Game Informer? Come now ? let?s not get carried away.
The game starts out with Batman delivering a maniacal Joker to the authorities at Arkham. As Batman roars through a dark forest on the way to the asylum, a fire at a nearby prison forces Arkham to take on a hefty load of some of Gotham?s most dangerous criminals.
What could go wrong here?
Batman: Arkham Asylum sports a third person action/stealth mix set on the massive island-turned-pseudo-prison Arkham Asylum. The asylum presents a surprisingly number of varied environments to fight in ranging from the obvious patient ward to a sprawling mansion and beyond (it doesn?t hurt that the island has a strong supply of hidden caves and massive cliffs either). The entire island serves as the player?s sandbox and there are plenty of enemies strewn about to keep things interesting. True to Batman?s modus operandi, there are a wide variety of awesome gadgets which allow the player to disable enemies in very creative ways. Batarangs, the bat claw, explosive gel, and several other gadgets all serve as crucial components to Batman?s arsenal ? and the game really shines with these neat pieces of technology. As the player swoops around the island dispatching misguided criminals and mental patients the gameplay will break down into two distinct modes of gameplay: brawling and stealth.
Brawling is just straight up butt-kicking. Batman uses his expert martial arts training and super sweet looking batsuit to send anyone crazy enough to attack him flying through the air. The whole system is heavily dependent on stringing together a streak of uninterrupted blows against multiple enemies. Ultimately everything boils down to timing and spacing, which I believe is the game?s biggest fault. Rather than have interesting combos or powerful moves, the game requires the player to seamlessly dart from enemy to enemy and strike a blow against them before they can complete an attack. Any enemy aggression is clearly telegraphed by three lightening symbols above their head so the player must either avoid that enemy until their attack is complete or try to hit them before they swing. I found this system to be rather tedious. If an enemy happens to accidentally drop a lead pipe on Batman?s foot while he?s in the middle of essentially teleporting around a large room and dispatching baddies then the whole streak is lost. At this point, the player has to rebuild the combo by using rather weak strikes that easily find Batman surrounded and pummeled. I can definitely see the combat mechanics Rocksteady was trying to deploy here and I think they?ve succeeded in their implementation, I just don?t find the system very fun.
The stealth style of combat is much more interesting as it depends less on reflexes and stringing punches together and more on patience, planning, and cunning. Throughout the game, Batman will encounter enemies armed with firearms. Since Batman doesn?t lower himself to using guns and he doesn?t kill criminals no matter how despicable, the Dark Knight instead must hide in the shadows and disable each enemy one by one. Conveniently, armed criminals only seem to hang out in rooms that sport massive gargoyles mounted near the ceiling. These gargoyles serve as nodes at which Batman can hide. The use of his batclaw allows Batman to swing from gargoyle to gargoyle, thus allowing him to travel around the perimeter of the room and remain hidden. If Batman is seen at any point in this game type he will immediately be riddled by assault rifle fire which is more or less a gameover.
The key to this mode is to divert groups of enemies to one location and then quickly swoop to another location to pick off any isolated opponents. Batman could drop down from his gargoyle hangout above his enemy and attempt to disable him via hand to hand combat but this is risky. The best way to take out a straggler is to either swoop in with a powerful double-footed kick and knock them out or hang upside down from a gargoyle, wait until the enemy stumbles into range and stealthily drop down to pick them up and hang them upside down from the gargoyle for all his buddies to see. This is particularly entertaining because Batman?s scanner gadget allows him to monitor the mental state of his enemies. As more and more enemies vanish into the darkness their fear increases. By the time most of the once formidable team of armed criminals are disabled, the survivors are so terrified they can barely hold their guns.
To complement the story mode, the game is chock full of allusions to the Batman universe which will undoubtedly delight any hardcore fans of the character. I enjoy the movies and used to play with the action figures back in the day, but ultimately the copious amount of side plot and nods to other Batman characters weren?t very interesting to me.
Once the Joker is vanquished, there are still a good number of additional special challenge events that, much like the story mode, take on either a brawling or stealth style. With the all out combat challenges the player is pitted against several waves of increasingly difficult enemies in a variety of novel locations. Other than surviving the objective is essentially to get the highest score possible which means combos are the name of the game here. The stealth challenges present interesting style challenges which would have the player eliminate enemies in a variety of ways or within a certain timeframe. For instance, one challenge may have the player disable an enemy by sneaking to a weak point in a wall and detonating it with explosive gel, hence knocking out the enemy with the flying rubble. The challenges mode sports an online leaderboard for gamers particularly taken with the stealth or combat system, but ultimately this solid single-player experience doesn?t present enough replayability to warrant keeping this in one?s game collection.
